Akron Children's Hospital
Ryan and Karla Tucker posing at the Elf Fundraiser that they helped sponsor.

On Thursday, July 26, 2007, Audio Video Interiors hosted a Fund Raiser Event at our award-winning Design Center.  In conjunction with the Elf Foundation, Audio Video Interiors is donating a "Room of Magic" (Dedicated Theater Room) to the Akron Children's Hospital. This complimentary gift of a "Room of Magic" will allow sick children to briefly escape hospital life and enjoy a delightful evening of laughter and intrique.

We were joined by Ryan Tucker, Offensive Lineman for the Cleveland Browns, and other notable Cleveland and Akron guests.  The event featured an auction,  hors d'oeuvres, and great company...and most important of all, it benefited the children of our community!

All money raised went to the Elf Foundation in support of our project.

Audio Video Interiors has been involved in this project for two years.  "When I first became involved with Elf, I had no idea how compelling the project would turn out to be.  I was privileged to be invited to the grand opening of the "Room of Magic" for the Rainbow Babies & Childrens Hospital.  When I saw the look on the children's faces as they were wheeled into the theater room for the first time, I was overwhelmed", states Michael Pope, President of Audio Video Interiors.  "I am extremely proud of James Carpenter, Team Leader for this project, and my staff for their dedication and hard work on this worthy gift for our community".

History and Background of the Elf Foundation
The Elf Foundation is a 501 c 3 non-profit charity formed in July 2001.  Our founder, Doug Weinstein, had experienced first-hand the anxiety of having a young niece diagnosed and treated for a rare form of cancer and the tedious nature of an extended stay in the hospital.  It was a simple leap from seeing the impact on his niece getting to enjoy a movie to the vision of an industry-wide initiative.
Elf co-founder, Carol Campbell, was instrumental in fleshing out the initial concept of Elf and bringing awareness to peers in the Consumer Electronics business, leading to the creation of Elf and our mission in utilizing the talents and products of an industry – targeting and directing them for sick kids who can always use a little bit of movie magic.  Initial seed money from Da-Lite, Dolby Laboratories,  SIM2, Stewart Filmscreen and THX Luscafilm was used to form the legal and accounting backbone of the Elf Foundation – and voila, the magic began!  See their web site for more information: www.elfsystems.org

A Winning Combination

Audio Video Interiors proves that great people and great practices make the difference

Pictured: Coleen Humphries, Human Resources Coordinator, recognized for Hiring Practices and Michael Pope, President, recognized for Best Practices in Sales & Marketing.

Of all the numerous prestigious National Awards won this year by his company, Michael A. Pope, President of Audio Video Interiors and Safety Technologies, is most proud of this week’s accomplishments. Pope states,” we have validation that we have the right people, in the right seats, on the right plane, heading to the right destination!” He is a firm believer that his success is attributed to his people.
The Awards were presented in Los Angeles at the CEPro100 Integrators Summit, an annual National event sponsored by CE Pro magazine, the leading trade publication for professionals involved in the custom electronics business. The Best Practices Awards competition recognizes outstanding business processes in the custom electronics integration industry. Of the five categories recognized at the evening’s Gala, Audio Video Interiors of Medina went home with two. The first was the Best Practices Award for Human Capital Management. This Human Resources award acknowledges outstanding hiring practices. Coleen Humphries, Human Resources Coordinator, has devoted a lot of time and effort in establishing the company’s comprehensive hiring practices. Her processes were mentioned in the Summit’s opening session with a strong recommendation from Jason Knott, the Editor in Chief of Electronic House Magazine and CEPro Magazine, for everyone to read carefully through the submission as a guide to better hiring practices. Audio Video Interiors and Safety Technologies implement a program that enables all of their staff to receive and maintain industry certifications. The company enjoys a low turnover rate with several employees having been there 10 years or more.

The second award was for Best Practices in Sales & Marketing, also mentioned during the opening session. Audio Video Interiors has earned the reputation of “Leading by Design” and credits their award-winning projects to the talents of its staff and the integrity of their design and engineering process. Pope’s policy is that no system shall be proposed or installed without a proven, documented design. He is proud of the design services offered and states that this award “validates that our company raises the bar for our industry in charging for our most valuable asset, the talent of our employees.” Referring to the support from his peers regarding his company’s accomplishments over the past year he adds, “It goes without saying, as we accept the praise from the country’s best integrators that our successes are due to the contributions of everyone on our Audio Video Interiors and Safety Technologies team!”
Additional Awards earned this year include the Integrated Home Level IX: $1,000,001 - $1,400,000 project level, Gold Award for Technical Design from the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA). That project’s Designer/Engineer/Project Manager, Jason Spence, received the coveted Electronic System Technician of the Year Award, hand-selected among thousands of potential candidates.
